Adding Hidden Objects

Adding Hidden Objects wasn't exactly easy, but I found it to be easier than years before in like 6th grade. The coding wasn't necessarily harder, but easier to type into the actions layer and I found it to be quite enjoyable to be able to remember the code that goes into the symbols and now I know what code means what. So I actually enjoyed putting my game together.

Drawing Hidden Objects

I believe that working in flash and turning my paper prototype into an actual scene has been fun. I'm glad that I haven't been putting in coding yet, because that's when working in Flash gets difficult. But I think I enjoy working in Flash more now than I thought I would. Although it may get difficult towards the programming, I believe that my past skills will help me get through all the hard coding.

Drawing Background

Drawing a background in flash was harder than actually drawing it with pencil and paper. It was difficult to get the room to look 3-D and it was hard to make the objects look 3-D also. Although Flash is fun to work in it's hard to work with codes and making layers.

Post-Election Day 2012

My prediction was indeed correct and I am very happy:)
I'm very happy with the results of the election with Obama as our president once again.

Paper Prototype 1

-What did you learn from creating a game with paper and pencil?
I learned that it's not as easy to get the drawing look like the actual object and it's hard to have the object blend with the background.
-What was easy about drawing your hidden object game? What was hard?
What was easy about drawing was I got what I wanted the object to look like and I think that it will be easier to draw it than creating it in flash. The only thing that was hard about drawing the hidden object game was trying to make it blend with the background.
-What do you still need to add to your game?
I still have to add the blending background. I don't even know where to start..

Frankenstorm 2012

This past Thursday, Hurricane Sandy hit the Bahamas with winds and torrential winds.
The storm is supposed to hit the Northeast side of the U.S either Monday evening or early Tuesday morning.
They are calling this storm "Frankenstorm" because this storm is the mother of all storms. It's supposed to be many storms in one and bringing horrible weather to the U.S

I do have family who lives in Pennsylvania. They are my cousins and they have lived there since 2008. But I do not have any family that lives in New York.
If I were to make a hidden object game about the "Frankenstorm", I would have it take place in the Northeast and have the people in danger of being in the storm looking for things that would help them survive during this catastrophic event.
My Ten Objects:
Can and packaged food
Water bottles
Battery operated Flash light and batteries
Battery operated Radio
Blankets and Pillows
First aid kit and medicine
Fire Extinguisher
Cell phones with all emergency numbers and charger
Sanitation and personal hygiene items
Portable charged heater

What I would want my player to learn would be: How to prepare and be safe for when a storm hits and what to do when it does.
Also what to bring to survive in the storm if you're going to be in a certain place for a long amount of time

Choosing a Learning Topic 1-5

My big subject area is psychology
One really important thing I learned about psychology is that stress affects everyone, everywhere. And a lot of people don't know how to handle properly.
People should learn the right and wrong  ways to handle stress.
My hidden object game will teach people the proper way to handle stress and the best ways to do so.
The title of my game: "Find the Right way"

My Vision. (Planning Game Scene)

My scene, that I envision, would have to be a child's or teen's room that suffers from huge amount of stress and/or depression.
There will be factors of depression present in the atmosphere, such as: Thoughts of suicide, hurting oneself, taking drugs, drinking alcohol, and being abused by another.
I also want the scene to have the environment of a depressed person, like dark, dull colors and someone who likes to be isolated from others instead of being around others.

I am very excited to make this scene because there are a lot of teens that suffer from depression and stress and they don't know how to handle it properly. Instead they go the wrong way and begin hurting themselves through different aspects.

Class Dismissed

Back in 2008, on January 15th, girls in Swat, Pakistan were banned from school and from earning an education. One of the many being Malala Yousafzai, began taking a stand by blogging her activism through writing. She believes in her rights to have an education and stands up for them 2 Days ago she was shot by people of the Taliban because of her activism. She's in critical condition now and has had a great deal of security watching over her, even though her father is against it. Speaking of her father, he is also wanted by the Taliban, so at times he will have to leave his home so he won't draw attention to his family Now that they have threatened Malala and followed through with that threat, they are now placing another threat on her saying if she doesn't die now, next time she certainly will. In the Documentary, When Malala and her father returned to their home, they were overcome with sadness and happiness because their home was still in tact but the rest of Swat Valley was ruined. When Malala returned home, she was most happy about coming back to her books and book bag. She was happy about this because it gave her hope to keep fighting for her rights to an education. The school re-opened in July. I believe....

Pac Man's 30th Birthday!

On May 22nd, 1980: The Japanese game-makers "Namco" created Pac-Man At first Pac-Man was on a machine, but as technology progressed, it was put on the Atari!!

2012 Debate

What Did you Understand?
I understood most of what I saw and if I didn't, I asked my Aunt.

What Was confusing to you?
Not A lot was confusing to me, but there were parts where they were talking about raising the taxes for big companies and then lowering taxes for people who don't have a high income.

Who do you think did a better job of expressing their views and plans for confronting the Social Issues affecting our society today?
Although I hate to admit it, I think Mitt Romney did a better job of expressing his ideas in the amount of time he had. Doesn't mean I agree with what he Said!!
He kept saying to lower taxes for  big companies so they can make a huge profit and have jobs for people.
Then Obama was talking about how to raise taxes on big companies and lower taxes for low income families.

Rule # 2

Rule 2: Find objects that fit a specific category or criteria We could put different objects in the Teens rooms and see if the player can identify all the objects don't belong there. I Like this topic for a hidden objects because Teens can relate to what's going on in the game and maybe might have problems going on in their life that they need help with.

Danger of a Single Story..

What does it mean to have a "Single Story" about a place or community?
   * It means to have a preconceived idea about a person or where there from..
Describe a single story about your community you have heard. What is missing from that story? How could people learn more about that community?
*I've heard that East Austin is not the safest place to live because of violence and gangs. But it's not all of East Austin that's like that. People could learn that they shouldn't believe everything they hear from people and stereotypes.
Describe a single story that you've heard about another community. How did you learn that story? How could you find out more about this community?
*A single story I've heard would be about Africa in the "Danger of a Single Story"
She talks about how her country is always talked about being in poverty and one of the poorest countries. But what they don't really talk about is their culture. A way to find out more about the community would be reading books, talking to someone from there, or travelling there and studying the country.
How could a game help people learn about different communities?
    * A game could help by letting the player click a community and read or play about what's going on in the community and then they will better their knowledge about that place.

A New Year Sept. 12th, 2012

My school year so far has been very eventful. I have had numerous schedule changes and even some transferring of classes. Which made getting some work done impossible because I kept getting new teachers.
My classes so far have been fun and interesting. I like Biology and English best. They, so far, are my favorite classes. I would put Art as my favorite class but, I DO NOT HAVE IT ANYMORE! Instead I have speech, which I don't dislike, but it's rather confusing. So I have to wait until next semester to take Art. I already have all my supplies, which I bought the first day to then realize that I would have to drop the class.
What I hope to accomplish this year would be just to successfully pass all my classes with a 90 or above..

Globey Awards Article

I thought the Article was interesting and kind of funny. The way the author puts that they don't know how to make games as well and that they will be sulking somewhere.
It makes me feel proud that our school is being recognized for something so awesome and unique.
My game wan't featured in the Article, but I'm proud that my classmates' games did.
Since my game wasn't mentioned, I would like it to have been noted as a unique game that hasn't been created before.
They did mention the game that I wanted to be mentioned: Forest Rats. So, yeah all is GOOD.

Forks Over Knives

I think this documentary will be about healthy eating choices because that's what were focusing on today.
The title implies(to me) that it will be about making healthier eating choices and healthier habits.

1 in 5 American children over 4 are obese.
More people in the world die of cancer and diabetes.
1 out of 3 people will develop diabetes in their lifetime.
Over the years our intake of meats, dairy and processed foods have nearly doubled in numbers.
Animal based foods that are processed can cause cancer and high cholesterol.
The U.S is highest in obesity, food intake, diabetes, and heart disease.
50 billion dollars annually are used to do surgery on hearts and arteries.
When the Germans invaded Norway, the rate of death due to circulatory problems decreased because the Germans took all the meat and protein from them and the people in Norway had to eat a plant based diet.

Final Game!!

Name of Game: Journey to Greece.
Team Name: Journey to Greece.
Topic of Game: History/ Social Studies.
The learning goal is to learn more about Greek Gods and Architecture in Greece.
The player will learn about Ancient Greek mythology and how it ties into ancient Greek architecture.
In order to improve my game, I would like to add more difficult scenes and a few drag and drop scenes..(Although I did, they didn't want to work.)
The most challenging part of my game was correcting codes that weren't fit for the part you wanted. I kept having to go back and review my code.
I am most proud about the concept of my game and the originality of it. Also the fact that it works and all the code is in correctly!!

Respect

Respect is when you treat someone the way you want to be treated.
When in the classroom, respect is being quiet when the teacher is explaining things. Also when doing an assignment you should stay on task. When in the hallways, you should respect people by not bumping into them or pushing them, or yelling at anyone. Also not vandalizing someone's property(EVER). When in the computer lab, you shouldn't disrespect the computers by changing the screens, peeling things off, or getting on inappropriate sites that aren't allowed.
During lunch or breakfast, you shouldn't throw food or items(EVER). Taking people's things during the day is also disrespectful. Being respectful when visitors come is: Following specific directions that the teacher has given you, introducing yourself to them and listen to what they have to say because they are here for a reason. Finally, when we visit other places, we should follow the rules that are set there, although they may be different. It's also best to pay close attention to things around you because you want to leave things the way you found them. That is what being RESPECTFUL means to me.

Nike

Nike corporations in Indonesia are highly underpaying the workers. A man named Jim Keady went to Indonesia to live like the workers in the sweatshops did on their wages. He found it nearly impossible to live in those conditions because they were only paid a 1.25$ for a day of work(which can be 15 hours). 8900 rupiah or 1.25$ is barely enough to buy a half gallon of milk. Men and woman have to work hours of overtime a day to support their family financially. The CEO of Nike is very uninterested about what's happening in Indonesia and he seems to be blowing it off. Michael Moore asks Phil Knight questions about what's going on Indonesia and he seems to be acting different with him then with Jim Keady. Then when Michael Moore tries to get Phil Knight to go to Indonesia, he declines his offer and says he's will not go. Then when Michael Moore gives Phil Knight a deal, If He puts in 10,000$ so will Michael Moore. After a little negotiation, he "Gives" in.

Australian "Buyer" goes into Malaysia Sweatshop undercover.
Mike Duffy: Went undercover to find out how the workers there live.
They live in very horrible conditions and only make about 6$ a day. Also these workers cannot leave because their passports have been confiscated and they ave to work for this company for three years because of a contract.

Object in The Sky!

I, Dajasia, Made this in Flash
I would turn this real life event into a game by: Re-enacting the scene and having the player look for debris from the object and comparing it to Mars, space debris and meteors.

The genre I would focus on would be science and adventure.

The skill my game would teach would be comparing scientific data and findings to things already found.

The player would have to look for the space debris and carry it around and look for clues to find the meteor/space debris then compare those findings to the actual things (eg. Mars, space debris, meteors..)

The hero of the game would be the player who will be playing the scientist looking for the clues. The enemy would be the time limit.

The sounds would be the meteor crashing and the scientist clicking and running. The animations would be the meteor flying and the background moving and the scientist moving also.

My title would be: Mars or Satellite

My Gaming Habits

What type of games do you enjoy playing?
I enjoy playing adventure games and strategy games , because I like to have a challenge involving solving puzzles and making to a certain place in a certain amount of time.
What are the titles?
I play Super Mario Sunshine on the Gamecube, Brain Age on the Nintendo DS, and some fighting games like, Mortal Combat and War games like Call of Duty.
When did you begin playing games? On what system?
I don't exactly remember, I guess because I started at a young age.
I started playing games on the Super Nintendo and the Nintendo 64.
Do your parents/guardians limit the amount of time you play?
No, because I don't go game crazy and play for more than an hour and a half every other day.
Do you think it's possible to get completely addicted to video games?
I do think that it's possible. I don't know why exactly I think that, but I do. I suppose I think that because, I feel that you can get addicted to anything.

Gamification, Game Design, or Game Mechanics- What????

What do you learn in Globaloria?
I learn how to work in Flash and how to create animations. It also teaches us about Game Design and how to look for things in games pertaining topic and graphics.

5 Skills I have learned in Globaloria.
1) How to use Flash.
2) How to properly use a computer.
3) How to plan out a game.
4) How to use codes off of the Wiki.
5) How to present a game.

How can you use these skills learned from Globaloria in a future job?
I could use the skill of learning to type correctly, presenting ideas, and planning out projects ahead of time and then taking the time to follow through with them.

Gamification: Means adding extras that weren't there before like, awarding badges, adding a point system and even adding a highscore page.
Game Design: Is what the game hangs on. Is the skeleton of the game. Also encompasses all aspects of the original game idea.
Game Mechanics: How the player interacts with the game. What they hear and see during the process of playing the game. Also how the game works (arrow keys, mouse, keyboard, ect..)

New Semester Goals

1) To get an "A" average for the rest of the year. No "B's"!
2) Not putting so much stress on my Mom. Doing things she asks the first time.
3) Spending more time with my family.
4) Write more stories.
5) Draw more and do more arts.
6) Pay more attention in 3rd period.
7) Read more educational books. (eg. biographies and science)
8) Study for Algebra and bring my grade up.
9) Help out my cousin with what she needs.
10) Learn Spanish completely.
